Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated October 23, 2026. These rules apply to every @teton.id address.

Draft for counsel. This policy is written for the Teton Mail service and is meant to be reviewed by a lawyer before you take live payments or store real mail. It is not legal advice.

1. No unsolicited bulk email

You may not send, relay, or assist bulk unsolicited email. That includes newsletters or promotions to people who did not ask for them, mail to purchased, rented, scraped, or traded lists, and mail sent through a third party that uses your @teton.id address as the visible sender.

You may send mail to people who gave you the address for that purpose, to people you already have a relationship with where the law allows it, and to transactional mail about an order or account they opened with you. When you are unsure, do not send it.

You may not use a teton.id address to hide the origin of mail sent from another network, and you may not use the address as the visible sender of bulk mail.

2. CAN-SPAM, GDPR, and CASL

You are responsible for the laws that apply to what you send. At minimum, when a law such as the US CAN-SPAM Act, Canada’s anti-spam law (CASL), or the EU GDPR covers a message, you must:

  • Identify yourself accurately. Do not forge headers or use another person’s address as the sender.
  • Use a subject line that reflects the content.
  • Include a working unsubscribe or opt-out method where the law requires one, and honor opt-outs within 10 days, or sooner if the law is stricter.
  • Include a valid postal address where the law requires one.
  • Have a lawful basis for any personal data in the message. Consent, where required, must be specific enough for the mail you are sending. A pre-checked box is not enough.
  • Keep a record of how the recipient asked to hear from you, and stop when they withdraw consent.

These bullets are a summary to set expectations, not a full statement of those laws. If you mail across borders, follow the strictest rule that applies.

3. Other abuse

You may not use the service to:

  • Phish, impersonate another person or company, or collect passwords and payment data by deception.
  • Distribute malware, ransomware, or exploit links.
  • Harass, threaten, or stalk, or send content that is illegal to possess or distribute.
  • Probe, scan, or attack other systems, or send mail designed to evade spam filters rather than to reach a willing recipient.
  • Register an address in order to confuse recipients about who you are, including look-alike names of banks, carriers, government agencies, or Teton Mail itself.
  • Resell the address as a bulk-mail platform, or share account access publicly.

You may only send as an identity you control on teton.id. You may not present the address as belonging to someone else.

4. How we enforce this

We may act on complaints, headers you send us, and other abuse reports. We may suspend the address or close the account. Suspension for spam, phishing, malware, or fraud does not come with a refund. See the Refund Policy.

We may share abuse information with blocklist operators, other mail providers, and law enforcement when that is necessary to stop harm or required by law.

If we suspend for a reason that can be fixed and is not active harm, we will email your contact address and describe what we need. The contact address on the account is how we reach you, so keep it current.

5. Report abuse

Send reports to abuse@teton.id. Include the full headers of the message and the time you received it. We aim to acknowledge abuse reports within two business days. See also the Terms of Service.
